Ella Wearing (b. London, UK) is a visual artist based in South Brooklyn, New York. Ella works at unpicking motifs and patterns that she collects from built environments. She plays with perceptual disorientation and shifting alignments by reshaping fragments from this inventory into drawings and other mixed media artworks. Ella received a BA (Hons) in Painting and Printmaking from The Glasgow School of Art in 2012 and an MFA in Visual Arts from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University in 2016. Since 2009, Ella has exhibited in spaces in London, Glasgow, New Jersey, Chicago and New York.
Most recently Ella was a Winter/Spring 2025 Visual Artist Fellow at the Edward F. Albee Foundation, Montauk, NY.
Ella currently has a solo exhibition open at the Chesapeake Gallery, Harford Community College, Bel Air, MD (June 12-July 28).
Upcoming shows include a three person exhibition with J.B Morton and Aaron Turner at the Neon Heater, Findlay, OH (opening August 29).
